As a freelance webpage designer I often come across sites designed so horribly or so badly maintained that I
often find myself emailing the author some quick fixes or pointing out script errors.
Number One: Colorful pages
We've all seen them, you know the florescent green, yellow or orange backgrounds. Just don't do it ... it's
ugly and it overpowers the text on the screen making it difficult for those who don't click away instantly to
comprehend what your site is trying to say.

As a small business webmaster for more than six years, I often get called, emailed or pulled aside for my advice as to why a company's web site isn't making much money (let alone turning a profit). What I have found is that 75% of these web mistakes are fixable and don't take too much time to correct. The other 25% of the time I am forced to tell the company owners to prepare the dynamite sticks because they are completely shooting themselves in the foot every day their web site remains viewable. I'm sure many of you reading this article have visited such web sites and will agree.
What I've done is to compile for you a list of the Top 25 errors I see or point out most frequently. My goal is for you to take this information and use it as a checklist on your own web site. It could very well create a surge in your traffic, revenue and customer base.
Why should you do it today?
Your profits are in jeopardy and your image is being judged.

Tick, tick, tick. That's the sound of those all important 10 seconds slipping away - the average amount of time a visitor remains at a web site before clicking on.
That is, unless you give them a reason to stay.
Take a good hard look at your web site - is it optimized in your favor? What does a visitor first see when they arrive? Does the headline make them screech to a halt? Does your sales letter's first paragraph hook them in? Tick, tick, tick.... remember, 10 seconds is all you have.
If your conversion rate is telling a dismal tale, it's time to make some changes. And, as unglamorous as it may be, it all comes down to your sales letter. If your sales are nonexistent, now's the time to act. Fast. Before your business becomes one of the 95% that fail.
